Hoi An Photo Tour & Workshop is also a wonderful sunset tour, capturing this great yellow-orange afternoon light on the rice fields and the river.
We begin with a meeting in our office (42 Phan Boi Chau street) at 3pm to discuss camera settings. Explaining the reciprocity between ISO, aperture and shutter speed, and getting started with composition techniques. Then it is a 30 minutes boat ride to my secret village, hidden behind bamboos, and surrounded by the river and rice fields. A local family welcomes us and helps us out of the boat, and we start our walk in a village which looks like we were in Hoi An 50 years ago!
After coming out of the village we walk through the rice fields to reach a second village which is bordered by corn, peanuts, sesame and rice fields. Basically the perfect spot to meet local farmers!
We also spend some time walking through the narrow alleyways of the village and meeting the locals who are often very happy to let us in their house to witness and capture their activities.
After a refreshing drink along a peaceful branch of the river we head back towards our boat, and capture the sunset reflections on the river and the last farmers heading home. A great opportunity to get more intimate with them and capture some portraits.
We end the tour by sharing some hot tea in a local house with a family. Another great opportunity for portraits! The boat brings us to Hoi An, where we talk about playing with our camera’s shutter speed and of course how to do night photography in the old town.
One of the best thing to do while in Hoi An, mostly when it is harvesting time!
